Traineeship in another Member State

  • The aim of the administrative traineeship is to provide an opportunity to supplement and intensify pre-vocational or school education by means of corresponding practical work in the provincial government and thus to learn about roles in the provincial civil service. To this end, where administrative traineeships last longer than three months, the trainee should try out at least two jobs, if possible. Therefore, as a training relationship, the administrative traineeship constitutes an interface between previous education and subsequent practising of a profession, either with the provincial government or another employer. The administrative traineeship is for a fixed period, ending at the latest after a total duration of 12 months. The administrative trainee is entitled to a monthly training allowance. Entering into this training relationship does not constitute an employment relationship.

  • Candidates are requested to send, or upload to the online portal, a full CV, a cover letter, and other documents relevant to the position regarding their suitability for the position in question. Candidates can access an online application portal on the website of the Province of Burgenland.

  • Applications must be submitted within the period specified in the vacancy notice as published in the provincial gazette (Landesamtsblatt), enclosing all the documents required. The date on which the application is received (date of receipt stamp) is the binding date. This period begins to run on the day following the date of publication and dispatch of the provincial gazette for Burgenland (Landesamtsblatt) containing the vacancy notice. For an administrative traineeship for one month in the summer months between July and September (holiday job), there is a separate vacancy notice, which is published in the provincial gazette (Landesamtsblatt) and on this website.

    Applications for an administrative traineeship in the summer months can only be considered if they arrive within the submission period. Applications for an administrative traineeship of several months may be submitted at any time. However, a training place can only be allocated if a training place consistent with the candidate’s education is available at the time of applying.

  • There are no costs for candidates, with the exception of the documents required to accompany the application and any travel expenses.

  • Section 114 et seq. of the 2020 Burgenland Provincial Public Servants (Employment) Act – Bgld. LBedG 2020

  • The procedure can be found in the relevant laws, listed under ‘Legal basis’.

  • Access to the administrative traineeship is possible with the following educational background:

    1. successful completion of a university degree course;
    2. graduation from a university of applied sciences;
    3. successful completion of higher secondary school education (matriculation and diploma examination or school-leaving examination);
    4. completion of an intermediate school-leaving qualification;
    5. vocational qualification pursuant to the Vocational Training Act; or
    6. completion of compulsory education.

    Only candidates who are personally and professionally suitable for the performance of work duties, and are over 15 years of age but in any event have completed compulsory education may be employed. The requirement of professional suitability also requires a command of German, both written and spoken, to the extent necessary for the intended role. In order to assess personal suitability, a criminal record certificate is obtained pursuant to Section 9 of the 1968 Criminal Records Act (Strafregistergesetz). For prospective employment in the care, education or instruction of children and young people, a criminal record certificate pursuant to Section 9a of the 1968 Criminal Records Act must also be obtained. Posts that require a relationship of a particular connection with the province may only be assigned to persons with Austrian citizenship. These are, in particular, posts that involve direct or indirect participation in the performance of sovereign tasks and safeguarding of the general interests of the state. If no suitable candidates are available for such a position, the requirement for Austrian citizenship may be waived.

  • When the training relationship ends, the administrative trainee will be issued with a written certificate showing the duration and nature of his/her role and training.
